Being able to travel independently and safely is a critical part of dealing with vision loss. NABA specialists instruct individuals on safe travel skills and ways to establish and maintain orientation.
Lessons are individualized to meet the person’s goals. They are held inside and outdoors; preparing for all types of weather, including the Capital Region’s snowy winters. Instruction may take place in homes and apartments, areas of personal interests; local malls, senior housing, churches and employment sites. Orientation and Mobility Instructors assist consumers in applying for paratransit options available. Lessons may include the use of a sighted guide, cane skills, public transportation, and existing vision as aided by low vision equipment.
