Ways To Give

We make a living by what we get, but a life by what we give.

Individual Giving

Your individual donation can help us to keep addressing and preventing vision loss through coordinated vision and medical services. By supporting NABA, you can help us provide the needed programs and services to men, women and children of all ages who are blind or vision impaired. With your support, we can bring people the care they need.

We ask for your support of NABA, so more people at risk for or affected by vision loss have access to the tools, technologies, and treatments they need to live fully and independently.

Tribute Gifts

A thoughtful way to recognize a loved one, friend or coworker is through a contribution to NABA. No matter how large or small, your gift will help us meet the growing needs of the people we serve while paying tribute to someone of importance to you.

Memorial gifts are a distinctive way to remember a loved one or friend. Donors are formally acknowledged and the family of the deceased is notified of your special tribute gift.

Commemorative gifts are a unique and wonderful way to celebrate life’s special moments – the birth of a child, a birthday or anniversary, a thank-you for exceptional care by a NABA Staff member or other caregiver. The honoree is notified of this recognition and the donor is acknowledged by letter.

We ask for your support of NABA, so more people at risk for or affected by vision loss have access to the tools, technologies, and treatments they need to live fully and independently.

Matching Gifts

Many companies support their employees’ philanthropy through a matching gift program. You or your spouse may be employed by a corporation with a matching gift program.

To find out if your company has a matching gift program, contact your human resource department.

Grateful Consumer Program

If you are grateful for the care you received by a NABA Staff member, please consider making a personal gift to show your appreciation. You can even recognize a special individual or team of staff members by making your gift in their honor.

Your gift to NABA will help us continue to provide the compassionate care and superior services that our community has come to expect from us. You can be sure that your contribution will be used for the department or service you choose.

Bequests

Benefits of creating a charitable bequest include:

·         Knowing that you are strengthening the future of NABA and helping those who have, or are at risk for, vision loss

·         Creating a lasting gift while maintaining control of your assets during your lifetime

·         Having the ability to change your designated beneficiaries at any time

The different kinds of bequests include:

Specific Bequest
I give and bequeath to NABA, a not-for-profit corporation located in Albany, New York Tax ID number 141338302, the sum of $________ for its general purposes.

Residuary Bequest
I give and bequeath to NABA, a not-for-profit corporation located in Albany, New York Tax ID number 141338302, ________ % of my residuary estate for its general purposes.

Contingent Bequest
If [name of beneficiary] does not survive me [or other condition], I give and bequeath to NABA, a not-for-profit corporation located in Albany, New York, Tax ID number 141338302, the sum of $________ for its general purposes.

Beneficiary Designations of Financial Accounts

Another way to help NABA is by naming NABA the beneficiary of all or part of your financial accounts, retirement assets, or even a life insurance policy.

These gifts are easy to make.  Just contact the institution that manages your account or policy and request a change of beneficiary form.  After you complete the form, send it to your institutional manager and please send a copy to NABA so that we will have a record of your intended gift and can properly thank you.

Charitable IRA Roll Over

If you have significant assets in your IRA and you are over 70 ½, you can make an IRA charitable rollover gift directly to NABA and satisfy your minimum required distribution.  Distributions from an IRA are normally subject to income tax, but by having your distribution directed to NABA, you will not be subject to income tax on this distribution.  Please note, however, that you will not be able to claim a charitable income tax deduction for this direct gift.

The rollover legislation has been made permanent, so individuals can gift up to $100,000 per year in this tax-favorable way.

To make a qualifying IRA Rollover gift, instruct your IRA administrator to make a direct transfer to NABA.  Please notify us of your plans so we can properly thank you.

Charitable Gift Annuities

Charitable gift annuity (CGA) is a contract between you and either NABA. You make an irrevocable gift of cash, securities, or other property to NABA. In exchange, NABA pays you a fixed amount each year for the rest of your life. The lifetime annuity rate is determined by the age(s) of the named annuitant(s) at the time payments begin. When your gift annuity ends, its remaining principal passes to NABA.

Special rates apply for two-life annuities. The minimum gift to establish a charitable gift annuity is $10,000. An annuitant must be at least 60 years old when payments begin.

Endowments

You can also create a lasting legacy at NABA by establishing a named endowment, the principal and income of which would be used for the general [or named specific purpose] purposes of NABA. The minimum gift to create an endowment is $100,000.

To create an endowment to support a specific program at NABA, please speak with us so that we can ensure that your wishes can be met.
