The Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany (NABA) will be hosting their seventh annual Low Vision Technology Fair on October 15, 2015 at St. Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Road, Albany, New York from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The fair is free to the public. People with vision impairment as well as family members, caregivers, educators and healthcare professionals are encouraged to attend.
Two local ophthalmologists will be guest speakers presenting the latest in eye health research and treatment, particularly for the “aging eye”. Dr. Nicole Lemanski of Mabel M. P. Cheng MDPLLC, Latham NY will speak at 10:30 a.m. and Dr. Fatima Ahmed of Retina Consultants in Slingerlands, NY will speak at 4 p.m.
Dr. Lemanski currently practices with Dr. Mabel Cheng, an ophthalmologist and fervent supporter of NABA, in Latham, NY. Dr. Lemanski graduated Cum Laude from Hamilton College with a degree in Art History and Biology. She attended Albany Medical College, where she developed an interest for ophthalmology. She completed her internship in Medicine and Surgery at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown and went on to complete her ophthalmology residency at Albany Medical Center. In the afternoon at 4 p.m., Dr. Fatima Ahmed of Retina Consultants in Slingerlands, NY will speak. Dr. Ahmed is a graduate of SUNY Downstate Medical College in Brooklyn; did her residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn and New York Medical College-Jamaica in Flushing, NY. Dr. Ahmed practices with Dr. Paul Beer, another tremendous supporter of NABA, Dr. Natalie Falk and Dr. Pawan Bhatnagar. Dr. Beer has been honored for his work with the Lion’s Eye Institute and his son is the founder of NABA’s Blind Artist Society.
